The Takeo temple, east of Angkor Wat, a giant ' temple-mountain' in the tradition of the Bakheng and Pre Rup

Takeo, a giant ' temple-mountain' in the tradition of the Bakheng and Pre Rup, stands out for being the first of these great temples to be built entirely of sandstone.

The appearance of the Takeo temple is allthe more massive for being incomplete. Indeed, the temple carving had only just begun when worked stopped.

The Takeo temple was designed as a representation on earth of five-peaked Mount Meru. Indeed, its name from the inscriptions was 'Hema-sringagiri', meaning 'The Mountain with Golden Peaks'.

Golden TaKeo Guest House name was probably choosen from this meaning.
